Steve Jones in Otago Daily Times: Radio salves old punk's pirate soul. "... like so many people in America these days, the 53-year-old rock star turned radio DJ is looking for a job. "It's weird not to have somewhere to go," Jones said. "And wherever I do go next won't be the same, I know that."" www.odt.co.nz/entertainment/ [thanks Robert]

Steve spoke recently to 30 Days Out at SXSW in Austin where he played a gig at a Best Buy store, with Michael Des Barres joining him for Anarchy In The UK.
Steve on his radio future: "Well, I have a couple of irons in the fire right now … there's another station in L.A. that might be getting something together along the lines of Indie 103.1, and I could do that. I've also been talking to Sirius (satellite radio) and could do something for them too. Right now I'm just taking it easy and sort of enjoying the down time, you know?"
Steve on The Stooges: "I have talked with Iggy about doing something with him again, maybe playing guitar in a line-up of the Stooges. Not that I could hope to replace Ron (Asheton, who died earlier this year) but we could mix it up a bit, do a few Pistols songs. You know, we were influenced by the Stooges … the Sex Pistols did “No Fun” on our American tour.... it won't happen this year because Iggy doesn't want to tour. Maybe next year … don't really know what form it could take, really, it's all just talk. "

Jonesy's Jukebox has ended on Indie 103.1 after five years.
News release: "...After five years as host of the flagship Indie 103.1 radio show "Jonesy's Jukebox", Steve Jones is currently exploring other options and is in talks to expand "Jonesy's Jukebox" due to yesterday's (January 15) announcement that Los Angeles radio station Indie 103.1 has ceased broadcasting.
The SEX PISTOLS guitarist and music icon was heard by fans around the world on "Jonesy's Jukebox" — via Indie 103.1 and its web site — for two hours every weekday since 2004. Jones is known for breaking new artists and his eclectic musical taste, which he brought to the show every day. Based on his vast musical knowledge and longtime commitment to music (supporting both icons and up-and-coming artists), his interviews were both personal and freewheeling. Many artists came away from interviews with Jones feeling that it was the best experience they'd ever had with a radio interview.
"I want to thank everybody for listening to the show and supporting the station," says Jones. "It was an experience I truly enjoyed and the support I got from my fans and artists who came on the show was just incredible. I'd like to think we broke some rules and that everyone had a bloody good time. Thanks for listening." "

Indie 103.1 - the home of Jonesy's Jukebox - has moved to an internet only station, and has ceased transmitting over the airwaves
"... because of changes in the radio industry and the way radio audiences are measured, stations in this market are being forced to play too much Britney, Puffy and alternative music that is neither new nor cutting edge. " www.indie1031.com

Gig Review
Carbon/Silicon at The Inn On The Green 25th January 2008.
The band came on stage at 10.45pm. It was really hot and humid in this small club that holds about 200 and has a tiny stage only 6 inches off the floor, so you can only see the heads and shoulders of the band. Mick Jones and Tony James are smiling and really enjoying themselves. The first 40 mins of their 80 mins set was a bit samey but got much better later with great versions of "The News" and "What The Fuck".
The encore was dream ticket punk rock heaven, as first Sex Pistol Glen Matlock sang vocals and played bass for a belting "Twist And Shout" and then Sex Pistol Paul Cook joined them on drums for "Steppin Stone". So, on stage were members of The Clash, Sex Pistols, and Generation X. In the crowd was comedian Noel Fielding and Razorlight singer Johnny Borrell. An amazing finish to a pukka night. Gig Review by Ray Morrissey.
Paul
Cook and Glen Matlock both took to the stage last night with Carbon/Silicon at the Inn On The Green, Ladbroke Grove, West London. Glen came on for the encore
and played bass and sang lead vocals on Twist & Shout. Paul then came on and
took over the drum kit for the second encore of Stepping Stone, with Glen still
on bass & lead vocals. Carbon/Silicon are of course Mick Jones' (The Clash)
and Tony James' (Generation X) highly acclaimed group.
